How Cannabis Edibles Effect Athletes Performance

Whether or not to take cannabis has always driven various arguments and postulations, especially when athletes and other sports practitioners are concerned. The fear has always been due to the THC present in cannabis, a component known for its psychoactive euphoric effect.

It will be essential to note that cannabis has many health benefits to offer more than its side effects and is undeserving of all the shaming and negative criticism it gets from some people.

Aside from THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), cannabis contains at least 65 other cannabinoids. One of such cannabinoids is Cannabidiol. CBD or Cannabidiol is a non-intoxicating and non-euphoric constituent of cannabis. It is the most medically necessary part of cannabis yet researched and has been used to either cure or alleviate a wide range of diseases and medical conditions. CBD medications come in the form of gels, CBD capsules, Sunday Scaries CBD or as a constituent of many edibles such as snacks.

Although still widely termed illegal, cannabis has become legally accepted in several parts of the US, Canada, and some other world regions. It helps to promote athlete’s performance for the many benefits it has to offer. Some of those include:

Reduction of Inflammations and Pains

Where sport is concerned, some sort of injury or the other is inevitable. When athletes perform, they stretch their muscles and tissues, which causes wear and tear of muscles and inflammation. In case of accidents, injuries may even become severe and more painful.

Cannabis has poised helpful to athletes in that it contains anti-inflammatory properties. Cannabis will also alleviate pains that occur in the joints, muscles, and sites of injuries. The herb speeds up healing and helps athletes to recover faster than they would typically have after sustaining an injury.

Cannabis can be used as an essential substitute to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and opioids, which mainly come with their side effects when used in the long term.

Muscle Development and Stamina Building

Cannabis will help as both an anti-inflammatory and analgesic substance to help strengthen muscles. It repairs the wear and tear that occurs in muscles during workouts or sporting activities. Hence, it helps ensure athletes build stamina and sustain them even during long hours of rigorous exercises.

The plant is also known to treat muscle spasms, a common but undesirable complaint amongst athletes due to their long-term, rigorous activities.

Prevention of Insomnia, Stress, and Anxiety-Related Issues

Stress, anxiety, and insomnia are all issues commonly found among athletes. With the workout routine, rigorous activities, and numerous competitions, athletes become anxious and stressed. As a result, it can sometimes result in short or long-term sleeping disorders. Meanwhile, athletes require enough sleep for overall fitness and effective performance.

Athletes who take CBD capsules have reported it has helped improve their sleep quality and promote their general well-being. This is not far fetched as cannabis allows the body to gather up adenosine, which is essential for long sleep time, as the body will rouse low on adenosine.

Cannabis can be an alternative to sleep disorder and anxiety medications. The herb triggers the brain to release stress-relieving hormones, bringing calm to the mind, helping athletes be better prepared mentally before carrying out sporting activities.

 Aids Digestion

Athletes need to digest food rapidly to get enough calories for their high energy-demanding activities. Since most athletes get nervous as competitions draw near, cannabis can help to improve their appetite. Cannabis will also aid the rapid digestion of food and drive faster energy production; hence, athletes need this herb in their digest system.

Greater Endurance

Athletes who carry out rigorous and long term activities may experience the ability to endure better if CBD is taken. Various athletes have testified from anecdotal research that CBD has helped their stamina and diminished the rate at which they feel fatigued. This will be strongly associated with the stress-relieving abilities of cannabis.

Since cannabis helps in the quick repair and building of strong muscles, athletes can carry out activities without tiring out quickly. When activities are being carried out, athletes who take regular cannabis medications will experience little or none of these issues; muscle cramps, inflammation, soreness, and all other muscular conditions, which may put athletes at a disadvantage or even cause them to discontinue whatever activity they are involved in.

Reduce Intestinal Tract Inflammation

There are CB1 (cannabinoid receptor type 1) and CB2 (cannabinoid receptor type 2) receptors in the colon, which help to reduce inflammations in the intestinal tract if cannabis is taken. Complications in the large intestine are very common to athletes, reducing their activity level while performing. CBD will help to alleviate complications that arise from inflammations occurring in the gastrointestinal tract.

Improve Athlete’s Focus

Since cannabis has significant relaxing effects, it will help athletes focus and ease their tension while competing. This can boost their performance since they can concentrate better and are confident all through the period of activity.

Serotonin is a process that helps alleviate depression, tension, and fear. Meanwhile, when an athlete takes cannabis, it induces serotonin production in the brain, influencing the person’s focus.

Conclusion

Athletes must scrutinize their sources before getting cannabis or cannabis sourced medications. To prevent testing positive for THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), athletes should consider CBD (Cannabidiol) based medications only. This contains no THC and hence has no euphoric effect. Also, most of the research that birthed discoveries on the benefits of cannabis was done exclusively on CBD. However, there are many other constituents of cannabis whose medical services are yet to be researched.
